Air Quality Curriculum in Third Grade

Our partnership with Washington Green Schools began with the work with our monitoring site at Pioneer Elementary in Auburn. The Auburn-Algona-Pacific engagement team started thinking about how to further community work with the monitoring site. They thought about creating a science-based curriculum with elementary teachers about clean air, sustainability, and health impacts of pollution.

Mentorship and Community Action

This Summer, the Service Board (tSB), a local non-profit centered on youth leadership and mentorship, had the pleasure of working with Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (PSCAA) to educate and empower tSB youth to take community action regarding air quality and environmental justice.
Air Quality Thru Tech

We partnered with RecTech, an internship program with Seattle Parks and Recreation that trains students through technology to better prepare them for college. The program helps students gain not only job skills but also life skills. From learning how to create a story board to the script, and how to work together and ensure all of the project is complete. One of the main sentiments of the program is to understand that all people are not the same so they way they work may be different from the way you work so respecting other viewpoints is a cornerstone of the program.

The Marshall Islands, are a series of volcanic islands and coral atolls in the central Pacific Ocean, making up part of the larger island group of Micronesia. The United States took control of the island during World War II and did a series of nuclear test during that time frame. One of the results of the Compact of Free Association – an international agreement between the United States and the Pacific Island nations of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Palau, allows people to immigrate to the U.S.
Connecting with Community Through Service

On a typical mild and cloudy Friday morning in Seattle, people start lining up along King Street in the Chinatown-International District. The majority of the people in line are senior citizens hoping to fill their bags with ginger, bok choy, rice, and additional items the food bank has acquired for the day. Despite the food bank opening at 11am, the line begins to weave around the building long before the doors open.
Empowering the Next Generation with Citizen Science

We've worked with WILD, a youth program of the Interim CDA, to teach students about air quality, how pollution can impact your health and solutions to pollution. The latest partnership activities involved our Air Monitoring Lead showing students how to read portable air monitors so they can use a citizen science approach to their community's air quality.

At the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (the Agency), we try to live with the sentiment that Earth Day is everyday, so everyone, everywhere can breathe clean and healthy air. We also make sure we participate in something extra on this special day.
