The cost of noncompliance
We’ve all heard it before: it’s faster, easier and cheaper to do it right the first time. This is particularly true when it comes to compliance with air regulations.
If you plan on constructing or modifying a business regulated by the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency, be sure to work with our engineering department to ensure all requirements are met. It’s a lot cheaper and easier to comply from the get-go than to backtrack later and change or add equipment.
It may be tempting to avoid administrative requirements like permits to construct or modify, or required annual registration. But the costs associated with getting caught far outweigh any perceived savings.
Penalties for violating emission limits include recovery of all the economic benefit you realized while operating out of compliance, in addition to a punitive component based on the severity of the violation.
At up to $15,000 per day for each violation, any thought of saving money by operating out of compliance can quickly evaporate.
