5 Steps to Replacement
|
Step #1
Determine stove eligibility
- This program will only replace old uncertified wood stoves and fireplace inserts, wood furnaces or coal-burning stoves or inserts.
- You can tell if your stove is certified by looking for a metal plate on the back of the stove or top of an insert with certification information. A wood stove is uncertified if it does not have a US EPA or Oregon Department of Environmental Quality label (generally this means stoves manufactured before 1990 or 1988, respectively). A wood stove or fireplace insert without glass doors is also a potential candidate for this program.
- The easiest way to determine stove eligibility is to register for the program. Once you are in, your chosen heating retailer will need to confirm that your stove or insert is an uncertified device, or that you have an eligible wood furnace or coal-burning stove or insert.
Step #2
Register for a coupon
Sign up to receive a coupon by filling out a form online or calling the toll-free number. A coupon and instructions for how to participate in the program will be sent to you. You will be notified if it is determined you do not qualify for the program.

Step #3
Take the coupon to a participating business
Don't delay! Your coupon expires 45 days from its issue date. However, if there is high demand for replacements, program funds could run out sooner and your coupon will become invalid.
You should bring a photo of your old stove or insert currently installed in your home when you visit a retailer or talk with a contractor outside of your home. This is intended to verify that yours is a working stove. The retailer will also need to confirm that your stove or insert is an uncertified device, or that you have a wood furnace or coal-burning stove or insert.
Retailers and contractors participating in the program will verify that program funds are still available, then take the applicable dollar amount of the coupon off the price of the new appliance so you'll receive the discount immediately.

Step #4
Ask about financing and other discounts
Many participating retailers and utilities are offering significant additional incentives (rebates, additional discounts, service plans, etc.) that could save you even more, depending on what new heating device you select. Be sure to ask about these additional offers. Participating contractors and retailers may offer low-interest financing to qualifying households.
Step #5
Wood stove replacement
After you select your new stove or appliance, the participating retailer or contractors will remove the old wood stove or fireplace insert and scrap it. They will install your new stove, fireplace insert, furnace or heat pump.
That’s it! Stay warm, safe and healthy — and save!
