What do longer, hotter summers; shorter, wetter winters; shrinking snow pack and ailing salmon runs have in common? In the Pacific Northwest, these trends are all linked to climate change. Climate change, also referred to as global warming, occurs when excessive amounts of greenhouse gases accumulate in our atmosphere. These gases trap heat, causing the temperature of the earth to rise.
The bulk of our greenhouse gas pollution comes from transportation and electricity generation. Reducing emissions from these sectors – such as by driving less, choosing cleaner cars and fuels, or increasing the energy efficiency of our homes and offices - can make a big difference.
Read on for more on climate change, and how you can be part of the solution.
