Smog Watch: Stash the gas, spare the air

Jun. 24, 2006 — It's official. We're in a Smog Watch, and that means you have a great excuse to put away the gas-powered yard equipment and sip a cool beverage on the deck. Stagnant weather and high temperatures bring rising air pollution levels, but you can help protect the air you breathe by doing one or more of the following:

  • Refueling vehicles in the cooler evening hours.
  • Skipping gasoline-powered yard work.
  • Driving your most fuel-efficient car, and combining errands into one trip.
  • Carpooling or riding the bus to events and outings.

The Smog Watch is expected to continue through Tuesday. Puget Sound Clean Air Agency staff will monitor weather conditions and pollution levels to determine when it will end. You can also monitor current and forecasted air quality at www.pscleanair.org .
