Looming Heat Wave Could Bring Poor Air Quality

Jun. 23, 2006 — Summer is finally here, and the temperatures predicted for this coming weekend prove it. High temperatures also bring the threat of poor air quality, so it's time to think about ways you can help spare the air this weekend and into Monday and Tuesday, when the highest temperatures are expected. Things that can make a difference include:

  • Refueling vehicles in the cooler evening hours.
  • Skipping gasoline-powered yard work.
  • Driving your most fuel-efficient car, and combining errands into one trip.
  • Carpooling or riding the bus to events and outings.

Little steps each of us take now can add up to make a difference and help protect the air we all breathe. And they could also help us avoid calling a Smog Watch later in the weekend. You can keep an eye on current and forecasted air quality at www.pscleanair.org .
