King County fire-safety burn ban starts today, 5/16

May 16, 2005 — As reported in the 4/27/05 King County Journal:

KING COUNTY

Burn ban will come early this year -- May 16

The county Fire Marshal's Office announced Tuesday it will issue a burn ban May 16 for unincorporated King County.

The ban on outdoor burning will be issued earlier than usual this year because of the drought-like conditions and in an effort to eliminate the threat of a fire spreading.

The county reminds motorists of the danger of throwing burning items from a vehicle, such as a cigarette, which could start a roadside fire.

Anyone who is not sure which fire district provides fire protection to their home or whether the home is in a city can call the Fire Marshal's Office at 206-296-6675.
