Alaskan smoke affecting our region
Sep. 3, 2004 – Western Washington is experiencing high levels of fine particle pollution today. Many areas in the Puget Sound region are in the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” category on EPA’s Air Quality Index. The source of this unusual event is residual smoke from Alaskan wildfires that migrated from the Gulf of Alaska into our area today. We expect conditions to slowly improve tonight and tomorrow but not return to “Good” air quality until the next weather system crosses the area late Saturday.
