Mission & Mandates

Our Mission Statement:  We work together to clean the air we breathe and protect our climate through education, incentives and enforcement.

Every day, we work to protect public health, improve neighborhood air quality and reduce greenhouse gases to preserve our climate.   We do this by:

• adopting and enforcing air quality regulations;
• sponsoring voluntary initiatives; and
• educating people and businesses about clean-air and climate-friendly choices they can make.

We also have certain mandates that are spelled out by the federal Clean Air Act and the Washington Clean Air Act. These include activities such as monitoring for air pollution throughout our region and regulating businesses that have the potential to cause air pollution.
